- Today I signed eight laws and vetoed two - announced President Karol Nawrocki on social media.
- I vetoed the law on the Silesian language. I respect and greatly appreciate the traditions and culture of Silesia. It is an integral part of the Republic of Poland's heritage. However, scientific facts are not established by a vote in the Sejm. We need to listen to what specialists say about this matter. Experts, linguists, indicate that the Silesian speech is a dialect of the Polish language. We cannot create a precedent where the political majority decides scientific matters - he said.
- The law was also financially and administratively underdeveloped, transferring tasks to local governments without adequate funding. As the President of the Republic, I will not agree to solutions that could build artificial divisions within our national community. At the same time, I appeal for work on the bill to support Silesian culture and dialect already submitted to the Sejm. I will sign such a law because I want to genuinely support tradition, culture, and scientific research, and enable the teaching of the dialect as an extracurricular activity financed by the state or local government - he continued.
- Support for culture and tradition - yes. Political games with Silesian culture - no. I have once again vetoed the law concerning the cryptocurrency market. I received the second time a bill practically identical to the one I had already vetoed. One detail has been changed. The fundamental errors have not been removed. I will not sign a bad law just because it has been passed again by the parliamentary majority. A bad law, even if passed a hundred times, remains a bad law - Nawrocki emphasized.
- If the government truly cared about the president's signature, it should have taken into account the previously raised objections. This did not happen. In such serious matters, responsibility is needed, not legislative tug-of-war. Therefore, the decision could only be one. A second veto of the same bad law. Poland should attract innovation, not push it away. That is why I invite the government to substantive cooperation in preparing a new law that will ensure transaction security, tax clarity, and conditions for the development of modern technologies - he said.
- Officials from the Presidential Chancellery are ready and substantively prepared for such cooperation. We can start as early as tomorrow and quickly complete the work on the law - he added.
- My decisions are not directed against anyone. They are made in the name of responsibility for the state. The President has a duty to say yes when the law serves the citizens and say no when it does not. I am guided solely by the interest of the Republic of Poland and its citizens - he concluded.
