A ceremony for the Lech Wałęsa Solidarity Award took place in Miami, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This year's recipient of the Award was Cuban dissident Berta Soler Fernandez.
In his speech, Poland's Foreign Minister spoke, among other things, about the history of Solidarity, Lech Wałęsa, the role of the USA in the fight for freedom, and presented the biography of the award recipient.
Meanwhile, Marco Rubio thanked Poland at the end of his address. – Your government in Poland is an extraordinary ally for freedom. There are other countries that have freed themselves from the yoke of tyranny and may offer help from time to time. But no other in the world has been more helpful, more steadfast, and more aligned with us than Poland – stated the US Secretary of State.
He continued: – Just a few months ago, we discussed certain events in Cuba. I asked for a favor, I asked the Polish government for help on several global and international matters, and it immediately and without delay materialized. This shows that among all the nations of the world that have overcome the tyranny of communism, the one that has certainly not forgotten how much effort it cost to defeat it, and now raises its voice and takes action on behalf of those who still suffer from communism, is our allies and friends in Poland. Thank you very much for that.
