Żurek:

'He Is Not the "Sun King" and We Don't Have a Presidential System' – Defining the President's Role within Constitutional Competencies

"Yes, it's likely Ms. Dagmara Pawełczyk-Woicka and her entourage trying to implement something like this [blacklists of judges whom the president will not nominate or promote for political reasons]. Probably after that presidential address in the Sejm, because we saw that the president will be saying who, in his opinion, respects the constitution and who doesn't. It's as if he's reversed roles; he doesn't understand that the role of a notary is very important, but it's the *legal* National Council of the Judiciary (KRS) that is supposed to conduct [judicial nominations]," – stated Waldemar Żurek on "Pytanie dnia" (Question of the Day) on TVP INFO.

"I believe we should not succumb to blackmail, because if it turns out that the president, through his associates, searches online for what verdict a judge issued, or whether they attended a certain march, or signed a certain list, and that will decide whether they become a judge or not, instead of their competencies and a competition publicized and conducted by a legal body – well, then the president has misunderstood his role. He is not the 'Sun King' and we don't have a presidential system, but a parliamentary-cabinet system," – he continued.
