Mroczek on the Causes of Assaults on Polish Officers at the Polish-Belarusian Border:
This Is Why Frustration Mounts and Soldiers and Officers Are Attacked.
– "Regarding the number of illegal crossing attempts, it has remained at a fairly high level in recent months. However, this aggression is also linked to the fact that very few of those attempting manage to cross this [Polish-Belarusian] border," – stated Czesław Mroczek in "Poranna rozmowa" on RMF FM.
– "Our detection rate – our success in preventing crossings – is at 90, over 90%, even 95%. So, if we have 150 daily attempts to cross the border, which are the recent figures, then very few, only individual people, manage to cross. Roughly five to ten, as I understand, if I'm calculating that 5-10% correctly. I'm saying that these individuals are stopped at the first line, directly at the border, but then there's a second line where police officers are also working. That's why we have such a high detection rate, and that's why frustration is growing and soldiers and officers are being attacked. We are handling this situation increasingly well," – he continued.
– "Because last year we managed to significantly improve the effectiveness of deterrence on this section of our border in Podlaskie Voivodeship, these migrants moved north and crossed the Lithuanian and Latvian borders in larger numbers. And that's why, among other things, we reintroduced controls [...]. Today in Białystok, together with Deputy Minister Maciej Duszczyk, we are meeting with our counterparts, the Deputy Ministers of Internal Affairs of Lithuania and Latvia, and we will jointly consider what further actions to take to simply extinguish this route," – concluded Mroczek.
