Duda After Meeting with Rutte on Increasing NATO Defense Spending:

Decisions Will Certainly Be Made.

– The topics of our meeting today were, of course, the recent visit of the [NATO] Secretary General to the White House, his talks with President Donald Trump regarding the current situation, security, and what decisions we will make in the North Atlantic Alliance in the future concerning these very issues, including those related to security and defense spending within the alliance – President Andrzej Duda said before departing for the Italian Republic.

– We also spoke about issues that I have been raising for some time within the North Atlantic Alliance forum, including the matter of fuel supply pipelines that NATO once built […] and which today still terminate in Germany […] for several years, I have been advocating for these pipelines to be extended to the eastern flank of NATO, and I am extremely pleased that actions in this direction have already been taken within the North Atlantic Alliance forum – he continued.

– The main topic, of course, was defense spending […] there is no doubt that this will likely be the dominant topic of the upcoming North Atlantic Alliance summit. As you know, not long ago, I submitted my proposal at NATO headquarters in Brussels, to the NATO Secretary General himself, concerning NATO’s decision to increase defense spending in all alliance countries to at least 3% of GDP – he went on to say.

– In addition to this, there are other proposals […] 3.5% is being considered, so it is certain that this will be one of the main topics that will be discussed in the coming months before the NATO summit and at the summit itself. Decisions on this matter will certainly be made – he added.
