Russian Influence Commission Recommends Submitting Materials to Prosecutor's Office. The Case Involves Macierewicz and Diplomatic Treason

- The "Karkonosze" program, one of the perhaps less known but very important programs for the armed forces, aerial refueling. [...] In the commission's assessment, [the decision] made by Minister Macierewicz without any procedure, arbitrarily, without foundation, without reflection, short-sightedly, unjustified, and unthought-out, surprising the General Staff and other units, organizational cells of the Ministry of National Defence, likely dictated to a large extent by personal animosity towards European Union partners, has a very specific dimension for the armed forces - said General Jarosław Stróżyk at a press conference.

- This program, in which we initially participated with the Netherlands and Luxembourg, with Luxembourg of course in financial terms, envisaged the purchase of 7 tankers. We were supposed to have an airfield in Poland [...] and we were supposed to co-command this new component. [...] At a meeting of one of the collegiate bodies of the Ministry of National Defence [...] Mr. Minister Macierewicz stated that this "Karkonosze" program no longer needs to be reported on, because we are no longer in it - he continued.

- Without procedure, without analysis, without consequences. [...] We lost not only several million zlotys in contributions, but the possibility of stationing [...] such aircraft in Poland. The program today is a great success, a fleet of 10 tankers is stationed in Cologne, Germany - he went on to say.

- The commission unanimously recommends submitting the collected materials to the competent prosecutor's office for legal and criminal assessment regarding the possibility of Antoni Macierewicz committing a crime under Article 129 of the Penal Code [concerning diplomatic treason] - he added.
