– National Prosecutor's Office Statement on Sebastian M:
He Declared Polish Prosecution's Actions Against Him Are Politically Motivated.
The National Prosecutor's Office (PK) reported that on October 3rd, a videoconference meeting was held concerning the extradition proceedings for Sebastian M. [suspected of causing the A1 motorway accident in which a three-person family died]. The meeting was attended by a high-ranking official from the UAE Ministry of Justice, the Director of the International Cooperation Office of the National Prosecutor's Office, the leadership of the Department of International Cooperation and Human Rights of the Ministry of Justice, and members of the diplomatic corps of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Abu Dhabi.
- The representative of the Emirati side confirmed that Sebastian M. is staying on the territory of the UAE. He also informed that the prosecutor appointed to participate in the extradition proceedings, representing the Polish prosecution in this matter, conducted the interrogation of the wanted person regarding the circumstances indicated in the extradition request – informed the National Prosecutor's Office.
- Sebastian M. did not admit to committing the act which is the basis for the request, stating that the actions taken against him by the Polish prosecution are politically motivated. The execution of this procedural act indicates the formal commencement of the extradition procedure. During the interrogation, the Emirati prosecutor informed the wanted person about the travel ban imposed on him, prohibiting him from leaving the territory of the UAE – reads further in the statement.
The potential resident status in the UAE is not expected to have legal significance in the decision-making process regarding extradition. The Polish prosecution has committed to sending information from the investigation to the Emirati authorities by the end of October 2024, concerning findings relevant to the extradition proceedings.
