Klich on the Judges' Disciplinary Law: The Opposition Has the Majority in the Senate, Therefore I Hope This Law Will Be Thrown Out Next Week

Today we begin work on the gag law. This is not a great day in the history of the Senate, but it is an important day in the history of the Senate, because here is a law that has been adopted by the Sejm and which radically limits the freedom of courts and the independence of judges; this law will be subject to deliberation in the Senate. The democratic opposition has the majority in the Senate, therefore I hope that next week this law will be thrown out, because that is where it belongs, into the trash. But before that happens, we want to inform the public about the potential consequences of this law, not only for our legal system but also for Poland's place in the EU. Today, in committee, we will discuss the legal consequences above all, but also the political ones that could threaten Poland if this law were to be adopted - stated Bogdan Klich at a briefing in the Senate.
