- I am signing the law on fur farming. I address the justification for this action particularly to farmers and rural residents. The facts are unequivocal: over two-thirds of Poles, including those living in the countryside, support a ban on fur farming. This voice cannot be ignored. This is the direction society is overwhelmingly indicating. At the same time, we have listened carefully to the farmers. During a meeting at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, they clearly stated what they need for this change to be accepted. These postulates are included in the law I have signed today - stated Karol Nawrocki in a recording published on social media.

- At the same time, the government must be aware that during my presidency, any expansion of bans and restrictions on agricultural production is impossible. This is a matter of our food security and the continuation of the Polish countryside as one of the most important pillars of our sovereignty. Therefore, a draft law protecting agricultural production in rural areas is being prepared at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland. The situation where a farmer, engaged in breeding or cultivating land, is punished for it by a court decision cannot continue any longer. Before submitting it to the Sejm, I will, of course, consult this project with farmers - the President of the Republic of Poland continued.

- Farmers must have the certainty that their activity is respected and that they will not be punished for ensuring our food security - he said.

At the same time, the president announced another veto.

- The law I have decided to veto is the so-called 'chain law.' Although the intention, the protection of animals, is just and noble, the law itself was poorly written. Instead of solving problems, it created new ones that could have led to a deterioration, not an improvement, of the situation of animals. The proposed dimensions for dog kennels were completely unrealistic. Kennels the size of city studio apartments are an absurdity that would hit farmers, breeders, and ordinary rural households - said Karol Nawrocki.

- I am not signing a law that stigmatizes the countryside and at the same time does not solve any real problem - he stressed.

- I am submitting a presidential bill to the Sejm that will allow dogs to be let off the chain, will realistically improve the welfare of animals, but will not impose restrictive and, at the same time, unrealistically burdensome obligations on people, such as building kennels dozens of square meters in size - the president stated.
